Globecomm Systems Inc. (NASDAQ: GCOM), a leading provider of satellite-based communications infrastructure solutions and services on a global basis, announced today that Kenneth Miller, President, has been named the industry’s Teleport Executive of the Year for 2008.
World Teleport Association is a non-profit trade association whose members include the world’s major teleport and satellite operators, as well as systems integrators and providers of satellite telecommunication services, equipment, and technologies.
In making the announcement, WTA Chairman Chris Russell noted that under Mr. Miller Globecomm has gone to the next level of growth and success. The Company reported a record $150.7 million in revenue in the Company’s 2007 fiscal year, representing a 19.6% growth in revenues over the prior fiscal year. The Company has made a successful transition from a network integrator to a systems and solutions provider. The Company which serves customers in four major markets, landed major contracts from Showtime Networks, for which it designed and operates a broadcast media and content facility, the United States federal government and telecommunications companies for a new cellular backhaul service called SatCell.
“Ken is a manager who put all of the pieces together and executed on a very solid business plan. Using the Company’s teleport to support their breakout year, Globecomm defined success by proving that ‘a little bit of satellite goes a long way,” said Russell.
“I cannot think of anyone who deserves this honor more,” said Globecomm Chairman and CEO David Hershberg who was named a finalist for Via Satellite Magazine’s Satellite Executive of the Year Award for 2007.

The award will be presented by the World Teleport Association during the 13th annual Teleport Awards for Excellence Luncheon and Ceremony in Washington, DC on February 26th. The industry will also give its Independent Teleport Operator Award to one of three companies during the luncheon. Globecomm Systems is one of the three finalists for this award. The Company’s teleport was the recipient of the Operator Award in 2001.
