Teens Decorate Virtual Christmas Trees
Publish Date : 12/18/2007 3:51:00 AM Source : Networking News Onlypunjab.com
myYearbook.com, one of the fastest growing social networks on the Internet and the only one started by two high school students, announced today that more than 3 million virtual Christmas trees have already been decorated, with 5 million expected by the end of the holiday season. On Thanksgiving morning, the company launched the full slate of holiday widgets, including the virtual tree decorator, to help members express their holiday spirit online.
“What’s great about a virtual Christmas tree is it doesn’t die, you can redecorate it 100 times, and you don’t have to water it,” says Catherine Cook, who founded myYearbook at age 15. “Teens make virtual friends. They give virtual gifts. They decorate virtual trees.”
myYearbook.com number-crunchers predict 500% more pageviews this December compared to the same time last year. The site’s widget engagement numbers have proven that, contrary to popular opinion, online traffic is hardly limited to commerce around the holiday season. myYearbook’s members log on to socialize—and decorate! Encouraging that activity is one of the ways that the highly popular online social network is deepening a sense of community, an intangible commodity that enhances the audience’s attractiveness to viral marketers.
This season, members can decorate Christmas trees and even send “gifts” online to friends’ trees. They also can “Santa-fy” an image, adding a red cap, beard, suit, reindeer, etc. to any photo they upload. There are dozens of Christmas card widgets to choose from, allowing members to send warm holiday wishes virtually. And if they are still in the holiday spirit, members can use the cookie decorator to dress a gingerbread man or woman with online frosting and candy.
myYearbook.com currently boasts 5.1 million members and is growing at 140,000 new members per week.
