Continental Automotive, Delphi to Join NAVTEQ and Leading OEM to Discuss Active Vehicle Safety Deployment
Publish Date : 12/21/2007 6:39:00 AM   Source : United Kingdom News Onlypunjab.com

BMW, Jaguar, Ford, Volvo, Fiat and General Motors will gather at the European Intelligent Vehicle Safety Summit in Frankfurt on March 11th and 12th to discuss the next generation of intelligent vehicle safety systems and the industry's mass market deployment strategies.

Leading vehicle manufacturers will be joined by tier one active vehicle safety system suppliers to present their latest initiatives, requirements and trials in sensor-based vehicle safety.

Driven by Europe's increasingly complex road system, more road users and the shocking number of road related accidents, the European Commission has set a target of a 50% reduction in road deaths by the year 2010. Deploying active safety technology and embracing emerging technologies are the two main routes towards achieving this target. Whilst the target is unlikely to be met within the time frame, the need for collision prevention has motivated industry players to make the most of this opportunity.

The Intelligent Vehicle Safety Summit will cover the main technology trends and will also review tests and trials. One of the key solutions is map based ADAS with its ability to map incidents on the road ahead. Bob Denaro of map-based technology provider and sponsor of this year's Summit, NAVTEQ, commented: "Consumers have told us that map-enhanced ADAS is a tipping point for take rates, and our automotive OEM customers are responding with digital map integration programs to take advantage of the increased volume of profitable ADAS systems."

General Motors; Jim Nickolau, co-creator of 'Boss' the DARPA Challenge winning vehicle, will explain the role of sensors in creating the world's most precise autonomous car and the subsequent lessons for the active vehicle safety industry.

Jaguar and Volvo will also present their latest active safety projects on pedestrian safety and driver drowsiness systems, both of which are on the verge of mass market release.

"Current active safety systems, particularly ADAS, are reaching a level of maturity that make them ready for mass market deployment," says Rayan Jawad of Telematics Update, "and industry players also looking closely at emerging technologies such as V2X."

The European Intelligent Vehicle Safety Summit has been created as a platform for practical and straightforward discussion on propelling the intelligent vehicle safety systems market to its predicted value of €23 billion and promoting the European Commission's target of reducing road-related deaths.
