Homes for Our Troops Texas Sporting Clays Fundraiser to Raise Funds for Severely Disabled Service Members
Publish Date : 12/12/2007 7:59:00 AM   Source : Sports News Onlypunjab.com

On January 25 & 26, 2008, the Greater Houston area will be host to one of the largest Sporting Clays Tournaments in the country. This charity tournament is sponsored by Energy Corporation of America and generously supported by Oilfield Helping Hands and will be held at Baroid on the Brazos in Fulshear, TX. With three courses and two flights each day, a total of 1,200 shooters will compete for trophies and prizes all to benefit Homes for Our Troops, a national non-partisan, non-profit organization that builds specially adapted homes and remodels existing homes for our most severely disabled service members. Sponsors and volunteers will add hundreds in attendance each day.

Event organizers from ECA Holdings, Halliburton, MI-SWACO, Crescent Directional Drilling and the Judge Carl B. Bentley family are excited about supporting the Homes for Our Troops mission. "People who are willing to fight and die for us must be supported when they return home in need." says event chairman Clark Clement, ECA Holdings VP of Western Operations. Clark says "This is not a political statement. Regardless of your political beliefs, we have to support our fellow Americans who put their lives on the line every day for our country and have suffered severe injuries and disabilities as a result."

Event sponsors include Ryan Services, Stallion Oilfield Services, Halliburton, Anadarko, Coors, Spirit Drilling Fluids, Boots and Coots, Pride International, Saxon Financial, Ely and Associates, 123-ABC, Inc., Packers and Service Tools, Cameron, BP, Stabil Drill, Patterson Service, Atwood Oceanics, Wilson Supply and many more.

Special guest volunteers include members of the Houston Area Chapter of the Gold Star Mothers, the Patriot Riders, Soldiers from Ft. Hood and local Marines will assist as well. A "Never Forget" flag which flew over Camp Warhorse, Iraq, then covered the casket of an American Fallen Hero on his final journey home will fly over the grounds both days.

There will be raffles, games and trophies awarded based on Lewis class scoring. Ron Carter Chevrolet will have new Hummers on display; hot air balloons will lift off at 4:00 pm each day and cook teams from local industries will provide a wide variety of food each day.

Participation levels for the event start at one hundred dollars and there are sponsorship levels still available for this event. Volunteers are also needed to help with this tournament.

About Homes for Our Troops
Homes for Our Troops was founded in 2004 by contractor John Gonsalves when he wanted to find an organization to volunteer his 20 years experience as a contractor to help our wounded veterans with their home modification needs. When he found that no organization existed to help our severely disabled veterans in that way, he founded Homes for Our Troops. Since that time, Mr. Gonsalves and the Homes for Our Troops organization have worked nationwide to complete 18 projects and we have 20 more currently under construction or soon to be commenced. With more than 30,000 wounded in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the waiting list of severely injured soldiers and Marines who need specially adapted homes continues to grow.

Homes for Our Troops has received awards and recognition from notable sources around the country:
*Office of the Secretary of Defense Medal for Exceptional Public Service
*President Bush's December 7 Address to the Troops at Camp Pendleton, CA
*Daughters of the American Revolution 2006 Medal of Honor
*2005 & 2006 Newman's Own Award
*ENR Top 25 Newsmakers Award
*Home Magazine's 2005 Home Shelter Award
