'Improved' Wins Triple Crown
Publish Date : 3/8/2008 6:58:00 AM Source : Sports News Onlypunjab.com
Hailing from the country of Costa Rica, Felipe "improved" Montenegro captured the PocketFives.com Triple Crown this past week with wins in the PokerStars $25k Guaranteed, the UltimateBet $20k Guaranteed, and the Bodog $30 Rebuy tournament. With these three wins, Felipe took home over $20,000 in cash prizes, and also moved into the #1 ranking for online tournament players in Costa Rica. Winning the Triple Crown is a rare achievement in online poker, as it requires a player to win three tournaments on three different poker sites within a period of one week -- and all tournaments must have at least a $10,000 total prize pool. P5's Staff Reporter Lenny Sharlet interview "improved" after his victories, and that article can be found here:
David "Hickboy" Hickman entered the rankings this week at #90 following his outright victory in the Full Tilt $750k Guaranteed, which earned him a cool $142,000 for 1st Place. Marco "CrazyMarco" Johnson had a nice run in the Sunday majors last week, final-tabling the PokerStars Sunday Warm-Up and the UltimateBet $200k Guaranteed a combined $25,000.
This week's PocketFives.com Podcast features an interview with Certified Public Accountant Ann-Margaret Johnston, who is the director of PokerDeductions. Ms. Johnston has helped many U.S. online poker players file their tax returns, and answered many listener questions in her podcast interview, including questions on the auditing process and tax write-offs for professional poker players. Listeners can subscribe to the PocketFives.com Podcast for free via iTunes, or can access this week's show by visiting the Podcast Landing Page.
The inaugural Bodog Poker Open was a huge success, as $75,000 total was added to the prize pools of the six events that culminated in the Main Event on Sunday night. Among the preliminary event winners was PocketFiver "rusostreet," who has been a long-time member of the site and a successful tournament player for years. He earned $26,000 for his victory in Event #1, beating out professional poker players Evelyn Ng and Josh Arieh to win the tournament.
