Rentech Applauds New Energy Bill as a Major Move Toward Energy Independence
Publish Date : 12/20/2007 7:46:00 AM   Source : Network Security News Onlypunjab.com

Rentech, Inc. (AMEX:RTK) announced today that it believes the “Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007” signed into law by the President yesterday will greatly benefit the Company’s efforts to help America enhance its energy security and reduce its dependency on foreign oil.

The Company expects that the expanded mandate for corn-based ethanol will continue the growth in demand for ammonia nitrogen fertilizer products produced by our wholly-owned subsidiary, Rentech Energy Midwest Corporation (“REMC”), in East Dubuque, Illinois. The Company also believes the new mandate for renewable biodiesel fuel will expedite the development of America’s biodiesel industry and will create additional opportunities for application of the Rentech Process to produce ultra-clean diesel fuel.

REMC has seen better than projected revenues as a result of the previous mandate of approximately 7.5 billion gallons per year of corn ethanol production. The new law doubles the size of the corn-ethanol mandate to 15 billion gallons per year by 2015. D. Hunt Ramsbottom, President and CEO of Rentech, stated, “We expect the increase in the corn ethanol blending requirement under the new energy bill to continue to drive strong fertilizer demand in the region served by REMC well into the future.”

The new energy bill also creates a new mandate for renewable diesel fuel. The Rentech Process is capable of using a wide array of domestic resources, including biomass and municipal solid waste, to produce ultra-clean diesel fuel. Rentech’s proposed plant in Adams County, Mississippi will be designed to utilize biomass as well as petroleum coke or coal to produce ultra-clean diesel fuel. In addition, Rentech has an agreement with the Solena Group to develop a municipal solid waste-to-fuels plant in Northern California which will be capable of diesel and jet fuel production. Mr. Ramsbottom added, “This new biodiesel mandate will drive commercialization of next-generation biofuels production and Rentech intends to be at the forefront of that effort.”
