Thorium Power Ltd. (OTC Bulletin Board: THPW), the leading developer of non-proliferative nuclear fuel technology and provider of comprehensive advisory services for emerging nuclear programs, today announced that Dr. Hans Blix has joined Thorium Power as a Senior Advisor.
Dr. Blix will work closely with the company’s team of experts in nuclear energy deployment and technology, especially within the company’s international relations practice, which already includes distinguished nuclear affairs experts such as Lars Hogberg, the former Director General of the Swedish Nuclear Power Inspectorate, and Tom Murley, the former Director of Nuclear Reactor Regulation at the Nuclear Regulatory Commission of the United States. Dr. Blix will further augment Thorium Power’s advisory services for nations interested in developing a civilian nuclear industry that is non-proliferative, transparent and in full compliance with international safeguards.
Currently the Chairman of the Weapons of Mass Destruction Commission, Dr. Blix was the former Director General of the IAEA (1981 – 1997), Chief of the United Nations Monitoring, Verification, and Inspection Commission for Iraq (2000 – 2003) and Foreign Minister of Sweden (1978-1979).
“Hans Blix is one of the world’s leading authorities on the role of nuclear energy and we are honored that he has chosen to join Thorium Power as a senior advisor,” said Ambassador Thomas Graham, Jr., Thorium Power’s Executive Chairman. “Dr. Blix is a person of unquestioned integrity and has been one of the leading voices for the peaceful expansion of civilian nuclear power. We are pleased that he has chosen to join us in our efforts to assist nations in establishing nuclear programs founded on transparency and non-proliferation.”
Dr. Blix noted, “I am pleased to join Thorium Power at a time when many nations are considering developing a civilian nuclear industry. The nuclear renaissance will only live up to its promise if nations deploying nuclear power embrace the twin standards of non-proliferation and full compliance with international safeguards. Thorium Power is well positioned to work with emerging nuclear nations and provide the vital strategic advice that is needed to ensure safe nuclear power.”
Ambassador Graham added, “Hans joins two other commanding experts in the field on our team, Lars Hogberg and Tom Murley. Lars has a background as one of the preeminent regulators in Europe and has wide international experience. Tom is an international authority on nuclear safety and regulatory matters and has decades of experience in nuclear regulations.”
