In this installment of our series on Tarot Card meanings, cover the cards of the Major Arcana, we're going to be taking a look at card number 14, Temperance. After reading this article, you should have no problems interpreting this card no matter how it turns up in a spread.

In its regular key Temperance indicates that the subject needs to take it easy and not rush into things. It's easy to become impatient with life in general as many things don't happen as quickly as we would like. This card reminds us that we need to slow down and not be in such a hurry to get something done.

In another meaning, it indicates that it may not be such a good time to leave secure and familiar surroundings. Many people are anxious to leave the nest way too early. If you're thinking of going just that and this card pops up, it might be telling you that for now it's best to stay put.

In general, this card is telling you to take it easy, not overdo things and to have patience.

In its reversed key, this card could be indicating that the subject is under great emotional stress caused by frustration. Again, this has to do with things not going as quickly as we like.

In another meaning, it could also be saying that a different approach or tactic is in order. Sometimes we are simply going about things the wrong way and instead of beating our head against a stone wall, it might be a good idea to try to solve the problem in another manner.

Finally, in reverse, it could also mean that there are conflicts between our business and personal lives. In many cases, this means that a whole different approach to the problem is in order, maybe even a total change in our lives.

Temperance is one of those "subtle" cards that sneaks up on you when you don't expect it. And while many subjects don't take this card all that seriously, it could mean serious trouble if we don't heed its warnings.
