TAL Global, a leading international risk management firm, has added Mark Weimerskirch to its executive team. With this appointment, TAL Global extends its wide security offerings beyond corporations, hospitals and institutions into the education sector, thus enhancing its focus on crisis management for K-12 schools, universities, high-rises, government buildings and Fortune 1,000 organizations.
Widely regarded as an expert on risk assessment and crisis management, Weimerskirch brings a wealth of experience to this position. Prior to joining TAL Global, Weimerskirch designed and implemented proactive emergency management programs for some of the largest K-12 school districts and universities in the United States, including those in Florida, Virginia, Michigan, and Ohio. Weimerskirch has conducted training and exercise programs for the U.S. Department of Education at its annual Safe Schools and Emergency Response and Crisis Management Conferences. His campus security and vulnerability assessments were also selected by the U.S. Department of Education to be used in several high profile school districts.
According to Johnathan Tal, President and CEO of TAL Global, “The need to provide extensive risk assessment and crisis prevention tools within our nation’s school systems has become a tragic reality. Mark’s expertise nicely complements the extensive offerings provided by TAL Global and enables us to offer comprehensive and proactive campus and facilities management plans to K-12 school districts and universities.”
Weimerskirch also has vast crisis management consulting experience with large corporations, professional baseball and football teams, governments and small businesses. Weimerskirch served as the director of Emergency Management for General Motors. During his tenure at GM, he re-engineered the company's global emergency management program and designed GMEX ’01, which, to this day, is still one of the largest, most successful full-scale exercises in the U.S. Weimerskirch was also selected by the U.S. Department of Energy to oversee the emergency management operations of the G-8 Summit.
Prior to this, Weimerskirch was chief of police at the Medical University of Ohio, which, as a result of his leadership, was named one of the safest college campuses in the United States by the Consortium of High Education’s Campus Crime Research. Consequently, Weimerskirch was awarded the Ohio Governor’s Award of Excellence in Community Policing. He has also teamed with the FBI and the former chief of police of Oklahoma City to conduct seminars on counter terrorism, physical security and emergency preparedness. Additionally, he has been nominated for a position on the Homeland Security Advisory Council.
Weimerskirch holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Florida and a Bachelor of Science degree in criminal justice from the University of Toledo in Ohio. He is a Certified Business Continuity Professional, a graduate of the Police Executive Leadership College in Ohio and Texas A&M’s Weapons of Mass Destruction Risk Assessment Program.
Weimerskirch resides in Ohio, where he will also head the TAL Global local office.
