Using GPS Collars To Track Lost Or Stolen Pets
Publish Date : 10/16/2007 9:21:00 PM   Source : Animals and Nature News Onlypunjab.com

It's a fact; pets are known to wander off from home. Stories of missing domestic pets are all too common. The reasons pets wander often vary, maybe there is another dog in heat, or a neighbor down the street leaves treats out on their back porch. It could be the Chinese restaurant in your neighborhood has delicious scraps. Whatever the reason, if you have ever experienced having a misplaced pet, then you know the agony and guilt that comes from temporarily losing your best friend.

The quest for finding your lost pet usually starts out with a search party and then you post "LOST DOG" signs all around the neighborhood. Pictures of your pet are attached to the poster and you write heart-wrenching appeals to anyone and everyone passing by. With no knowledge of whether your pet will return or be found, this can be very stressful for any pet owner. Of course, if the pet is never found it can be very traumatic for a family and especially for kids. Even the proper collar and tags do not guarantee that your pet will be brought to back to you.

Thankfully we have a solution to this everlasting problem. Technology! This type of technology in particular has been around for many years in the farming industry, but now it is offered to domestic pet owners. The GPS I.D. Tag is a microchip embedded at the scruff of an animal's neck. Contrary to alarmed naysayers, this microchip is as small as a grain of rice and uses silicon and non cell-eruptive materials. The GPS I.D. Tag chip comes with a locating device with a service tracker company that informs pet owners about the whereabouts of their pets.

GPS I.D. Tags provide rapid identification, location tracking and condition monitoring. Depending on the manufacturer of the GPS I.D. Tag purchased, once under the skin, owners can input a limit or a radius of where a pet can roam freely. When a pet crosses the set boundary, the locating device will track the position and necessary information needed. Some GPS I.D. Tags have service tracker companies that inform you when your pet has wandered out of it's set boundaries.

However, there is more then one use for these nifty tracking devices. Not only is this chip used when your pet is lost, it can also be used to verify identification for pet passports. Pet verification data may include your pet's breed, image, inoculation/vaccination record and medical condition or history. These chips can come in handy in a variety of situations. These GPS I.D. Tags come with an I.D. Card, which pet owners use to keep records for verification of ownership in case of pet disputes or other situations where your dog cant be identified.

One thing is certain, the days of hanging posters on street signs and gathering large search parties are now a thing of the past. Pet owners can now ensure themselves of peace of mind if their pet is ever lost or stolen. It's time to say good riddance to the heartache and guilt associated with losing your loved ones. Thanks to GPS I.D. tags, keeping track of your pets has never been easier.
