Southern California-based eGuardian Applauds Social Networking Giant for Leadership in Keeping Predators Away From Children
Publish Date : 1/19/2008 8:11:00 AM Source : Networking News Onlypunjab.com
Southern California-based eGuardian today announced its congratulations to MySpace.com for their leadership position among social networking websites to protect children and adolescents on the Internet. MySpace.com announced this week that they are now exploring new measures to keep criminals and sexual predators off the site and away from their underage users.
Technology developed by eGuardian makes it possible to identify a child's age group and exclude unauthorized contact with adults, while allowing websites to provide age-appropriate content and build communities with other eGuardian-verified children. In addition to online protection, if a child is missing or abducted, the eGuardian system will broadcast an automatic cyber alert to law enforcement agencies when the child accesses any account they've ever created with eGuardian.
"We are so pleased to see MySpace recognizing the need for added protection for children using their website," said Ron Zayas, Chief Marketing Officer and Co-Founder of eGuardian. "With the increasing threat of sexual predators on the Internet, the only way to ensure the privacy and safety of children and teenagers is to have popular social networking websites employ age-verification tools."
Recently a number of state attorneys general voiced concerns about the number of criminals and sexual predators using social networking sites to meet and stalk victims. As one of the most popular Internet activities, social networking also poses serious threats to young Internet users.
A recently released FBI report identifies frightening statistics about sexual predators on the Internet. According to the report:
- 77 million children in the United States regularly use the Internet. One in seven has been approached by an adult sexual predator.
- Among the top 10 instant messaging lines on MySpace is ALS, meaning "What is your age, location and sex?"
eGuardian is available for a one-time sign up fee of $20 per child, with a majority of proceeds benefiting local schools and FoundationCare, the company's non-profit organization that helps schools fund new technologies in the classroom.
About eGuardian eGuardian is the safe, affordable way to protect your child from adult content and online predators while allowing them to enjoy the world of information available on the Internet. Founded by two Southern California technology entrepreneurs, who are also concerned parents, eGuardian is the response to the permeable content filters and blocking software that fail to completely protect children using the Internet. |
