Smart Kids With Learning Disabilities, Inc. Announces New Board Members and Over $6,000 in New Grants

Smart Kids with Learning Disabilities, Inc. announces two new board members and over $6,000 in new grants. Ken Magrath, Ph.D., a licensed clinical psychologist, with practices in Westport, Connecticut, and New York City, and Richard Goligoski, CPA, partner, National Office Independence, Deloitte & Touche, LLP, in Wilton, Connecticut, joined the board.

A grant for $5,000 was awarded to Smart Kids with Learning Disabilities, Inc., a non-profit organization, from the Laurence W. Levine Foundation, Bayport, New York, and $1,100 from the Westport Sunrise Rotary Club, Westport, Connecticut. The monies will help support Smart Kids with Learning Disabilities, Inc. newsletter, website and educational outreach programs.

New board member Dr. Kenneth Magrath is a licensed psychologist with offices in Westport, Connecticut, and New York City. He is affiliated with Howard Greene & Associates, the nation's leading independent educational consulting company. Dr. Magrath has served on the faculties of the Cornell University College of Medicine and New York Medical College.

Dr. Magrath's professional focus includes the assessment of cognitive and learning styles, plus career and academic coaching based on assessment results. He has consulted with both public and private schools, including Andover, Choate-Rosemary Hall, Greens Farms Academy, Hopkins School, and numerous colleges and universities ranging from Cornell University, Dartmouth and New York University to the University of Vermont.

Dr. Magrath received his doctorate degree in psychology from Syracuse University and was awarded pre- and post-doctoral fellowships at the New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center. He is a Founding Fellow of the American College of Advanced Practice in Psychology. He is a member of the American Psychological Association and the Society of Industrial/Organizational Psychologists. He lives in Norwalk, Connecticut.

His recent presentations include "Navigating the Evaluation Process for Your Child with LD or ADHD," sponsored by Smart Kids with Learning Disabilities, Inc.

"I am very excited to work as a member of the Board of Directors of Smart Kids with LD," said Dr. Magrath. "Smart Kids is a premier advocacy group that combines the talents of parents, academicians and clinical practitioners to learn and serve the millions of children in this country struggling with learning challenges."

New board member Richard Goligoski, CPA, is partner, National Office Independence, Deloitte & Touche, LLP, in Wilton, Connecticut. He consults with Deloitte personnel and clients about issues concerning the Security and Exchange Commission, Public Company Accounting Oversight Board, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (IACPA), Government Accountability Office, the Department of Labor as well as other rules and regulations, with a focus on auditor independence.

In a prior position for Deloitte, he was the primary technical consultant for a project conducted by the Chinese Ministry of Finance to develop accounting standards to be applied by all business enterprises in the People's Republic of China.

Mr. Goligoski received his Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree with a major in comprehensive accounting from the University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire, Wisconsin. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and Connecticut Society of Certified Public Accountants, and is a former member of the AICPA Behavioral Standards/Independence Subcommittee of the Professional Ethics Executive Committee.

He is an advisor to the Tri-State regional United Way organization. He is also a board member of United Way of Norwalk & Wilton and University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Foundation Inc. He lives in Greenwich, Connecticut.

"More personally, as a parent of a child with learning disabilities, I am proud to be a small part of efforts that foster positive change in the lives of families with children who have learning disabilities."

According to Jane Ross, Executive Director, this is a banner year for Smart Kids with Learning Disabilities, Inc., a non-profit organization which provides authoritative and action-oriented information about learning disabilities and attention deficit disorders to parents, educators and professionals.

"We're revamping our website, celebrating the 50th issue of our newsletter and continuing to provide educational outreach programs about learning disabilities and attention deficit disorders, thanks to generous grants from organizations such as the Laurence W. Levine Foundation and the Westport Sunrise Rotary Club," she said.

Further, she said, ""We're fortunate to bring on board two immensely talented professionals who have a strong sense of community, are passionate about helping children, and are committed to helping us grow as an outreach organization."
