StoreNext Retail Technologies LLC, a subsidiary of Retalix USA (Nasdaq:RTLX), today announced it will offer Fujitsu Transaction Solutions Inc.’s U-Scan Genesis self-checkout system to independent and regional grocers through the StoreNext national dealer network.
“Fujitsu’s U-Scan self-checkout family is rapidly evolving, and its Genesis models provide a smaller footprint and greater reliability, thus helping independent grocers improve their shopping environment and front-end workflow with less floor space,” said Ray Carlin, president and chief executive officer of StoreNext. “U-Scan Genesis also offers innovations such as two-handed scanning and lead-through lights that make transactions easier and quicker for shoppers. It’s a great addition to StoreNext’s product line and furthers our mission to bring the very best technology that cuts costs and enhances the shopper experience for independent grocers and regional chains.”
Completely redesigned from the ground up with Fujitsu’s engineering and technologies, U-Scan Genesis offers retailers new features, flexibility, scalability and reliability. The self-checkout system offers a variety of hardware and software enhancements including:
Small Footprint – redesigned to offer one of the smallest self-checkout footprints available, making it attractive for grocers that have limited floor space.
Retail-hardened Fujitsu TeamPoS terminals – designed to withstand the rigors of high-volume checkout environments with easy serviceability.
Two-handed scanning – instead of bagging each item before scanning the next, U-Scan Genesis allows shoppers to scan items one after the other, further accelerating the check-out process.
Enhanced bill and coin accepting and dispensing units – ideally located together for convenience, these units speed cash transactions and reduce the chance of shoppers forgetting their change.
ATM-style “follow-me” LED lighting – guides users through the checkout process.
Intuitive user interfaces support up to 12 languages – encourages more shoppers to use self-checkout and makes the checkout process more efficient.
High-performance bill dispenser – gives customers their change faster while reducing bill jams – the most common self-checkout service and maintenance issue.
Choice of internal coin hoppers or canisters – retailers can choose the most efficient option based on existing coin-handling equipment.
Improved Serviceability – 100 percent of U-Scan Genesis components are front-accessible with slide-out mounts enabling hardware access and removal in less than five minutes.
Fully ADA and RoHS compliant – providing easy access for disabled shoppers while exceeding new benchmarks for environmental protection and reducing energy consumption.
Grocers also can use U-Scan’s Mobile Attendant option, which helps service associates move from station to station, assisting shoppers with system control literally in the palm of their hands. Operating on Fujitsu’s iPAD handheld computer, Mobile Attendant can supplement or even replace a fixed-position attendant station while providing other front-end checkout functions such as line busting, remote approvals, price check and item verifications.
The new U-Scan Genesis is available through StoreNext in 1-, 2- and 4-bag modular and carousel configurations, with tiered and non-tiered options providing more space for larger item handling, tall item racks or multiple bag stand configurations. Belted and multi-lane payment station versions will also be available.
