SECOA has developed a chain that solves these issues for the theatrical industry. The SECOA Theatrical Chain (STC™) is an alloy chain rated for "Overhead Lifting" for the theatrical industry, but has the link size of a 1/4" grade 30 chain. This means that all of the standard rigging hardware used in this industry with 1/4" chain will be usable with the STC™ chain.

The STC™ chain has many important safety features. It is strong with a 3,250 working load limit based on a 4:1 design factor. Each link is proof tested to twice the working load limit as a part of the manufacturing process. The chain is lot traceable with every tenth link embossed with a coded date stamp. The chain is easily identifiable with every link embossed with "STC" and the chain has a gold iridescent finish. The American- made STC™ chain meets the stringent requirements of OSHA CFR 1910.184 Slings.

SECOA will be offering this revolutionary chain to the theatrical industry at a cost of under $3.00 per foot, which is much less expensive than using turnbuckles and pipe clamps for trimming battens. When compared to grade 30 or 43 chain, adding the STC™ chain to a project will typically add only a few hundred dollars to the overall cost of a project- a small price to pay to meet the requirements of OSHA CFR 1910.184 Slings.
