Maine marine harvesters and dealers can renew their annual licenses more easily and quickly than ever, using the enhanced online license renewal service announced by the Department of Marine Resources. The online service is available through the state’s official Web site at http://www.Maine.gov or at http://www.maine.gov/online/marinelicensing.
Dealers may renew 2008 licenses online starting February 11, 2008. Harvesters who have not yet renewed their 2008 licenses may also renew online throughout the year. There are no penalties for late renewal, but licensees must have a current license in order to begin harvesting or dealing activities in 2008.
Since the state began offering online marine license renewals in 2003, more than 4,750 renewals have been completed online.
The quick and convenient online renewal service is available 24 hours a day and seven days a week. The solution allows users to renew lobster/crab harvester licenses and other marine licenses in a single transaction. Visa and MasterCard payments are processed through the safe and secure Maine.gov payment server, and licensees will receive immediate confirmation of their renewal upon completion of the online transaction. Licensees may also sign up to receive an email reminder for next year’s renewal.
Users can still expect to find the same requirements for renewing online, but the process is simpler. “By merging all online license renewals into a single service, we hope to make license renewal even easier than it has been in the past,” said George LaPointe, Commissioner of the Department of Marine Resources. “Licensees can now renew multiple licenses at the same time, and pay with a credit card. This saves everyone time and helps to ensure that marine harvesters and dealers in Maine are properly licensed and regulated.”
The Department of Marine Resources Online License Renewal service was developed in partnership with InforME, the state of Maine’s official e-government provider. All online services and official state of Maine Web pages can be accessed from the state portal (http://www.Maine.gov).
