Sub Pop Records was established in 1979 as a fanzine based in Olympia, Washington. In 1986, founder Bruce Pavitt moved to Seattle, Washington and released Sub Pop Records' first LP. Releases from groups Green River and Soundgarden followed. Sub Pop is especially known for its contributions during the Grunge Era of music, particularly after signing a little band called Nirvana. Over the course of the years, Sub Pop has been home to bands such as Combustible Edison, Sebadoh, Mudhoney, The Shins, Hot Hot Heat, The Postal Service, and many more great artists.
