RES-Q Healthcare Systems will demonstrate paperless case documentation for RES-Q Perioperative Resource Management, its surgery scheduling software for hospitals, at the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Annual Conference & Exhibition. HIMSS will be held on February 24-28, 2008 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla. RES-Q will be at booth #3317.

The system now supports end-to-end, paperless documentation that is essential for measurement of performance against Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) standards and continuous operational improvement. With electronic signatures on both the individual field and case levels, providers digitally sign off on their documentation of the services they perform during the care of surgical patients. Once an electronic signature is applied in RES-Q Perioperative Resource Management, the data cannot be changed by anyone other than the provider who electronically signed the record. If a provider goes back to amend or correct any item in their documentation, audit trail functionality saves the previous value of the data in any field that is changed, displays the new value, verifies and annotates the identity of the user who made the change, and adds a date and time stamp.
Through an HL7 interface, data from the RES-Q surgical case record is sent directly from RES-Q Perioperative Resource Management to the hospital's electronic data repository. This eliminates the necessity of scanning the paper case record and attaching it to the patient account. Users have the flexibility to create customized templates that define exactly what data from the case record is sent to the electronic files. Thus, all authorized users get immediate access to just the right data.
