QuickPlay Media Dramatically Improves Viewing Experience for Full-Length Mobile TV & Movies
Publish Date : 12/18/2007 7:20:00 AM Source : Mobile and Gadgets News Onlypunjab.com
QuickPlay Media, the leader in mobile TV and video solutions, today announced the release of a new set of features for its OpenVideo 4.0 platform. The new features transform the mobile customer experience by enabling mobile operators to offer consumers full length content—including movies and TV—in a way that fits the unique viewing preferences of each customer. The first mobile carrier implementation of the feature set will occur in Q1 of 2008.
The growing availability of advanced mobile devices with larger screen sizes and the mobilization of movie and TV content have led to increased interest among consumers in viewing movies and TV on their hand-held devices. However, in many instances, consumers do not have time to watch a full-length TV show or movie in its entirety. Additionally, a segment may be interupted due to a network failure. In both of these instances existing WAP or other mobile client-based services force users to start again from the beginning of the program when they resume viewing. The new features address this issue with a “resume playback” option that enables customers to stop the program and then pick up where they left off. At the time of playback the QuickPlay service also provides an option to dynamically insert targeted advertising.
Another advanced feature is a powerful search capability that allows customers to look for particular content within a segment. In addition, mobile operators and/or content providers are also able to “chapterize” a long-form video into smaller, more digestible segments, thereby minimizing impact on network bandwidth.
“Working closely with leading mobile operators, we have seen how the evolution of the mobile device and the network has created a surge in demand for full-length TV and movie content from consumers,” said Wayne Purboo, CEO and co-founder of QuickPlay Media. “We are very excited to support this growing demand with a high-quality solution tailored to fit the unique requirements of a customer viewing this type of content while mobile, and to do it in a way that ensures network impact on the mobile operator is minimized.”
The new feature set delivers a variety of benefits to mobile operators. First, the introduction of more diverse and popular content (i.e. popular TV episodes) provides operators and content providers with the opportunity to increase the average revenue per user. Secondly, long-form content can be separated into smaller segments to minimize bandwidth requirements. A final benefit revolves around the opportunities for a mobile operator to increase customer adoption by subsidizing video service fees with advertising revenues.
