The NFL's Super Bowl between the New England Patriots and the New York Giants has the potential to be a classic. Tom Brady and company fighting for 19-0. The New York Giants looking to rewrite history with a startling upset in the biggest NFL game of the year, maybe in several Super Bowls.
I am trying to make this prediction with my head. My heart thinks otherwise... Will the pressure finally get to the New England Patriots? It has been a pressure-cooker, fishbowl season for New England.
The New England Patriots have been the best team in the NFL this regular season, and are on a quest to become the best team for one season in NFL history, and on top why not throw in the team of the decade. Best Quarterback and Head Coach of the decade (ever?) are also titles being built in Boston, the resume for each enhanced greatly by a big, fat, impressive win in the Super Bowl should they get past the New York Giants.
The New York Giants are a miracle team. Fished from the middle of the NFL river, they have played great on the road against the Tampa Bay Bucs, Dallas Cowboys and Green Bay Packers, mainly with house money. The biggest NFL mountain needs to be climbed, mount New England, for this story to have an incredible ending for Big Blue. Whether or not Eli Manning can continue his shocking rise only adds to the intrigue.
I have seen many dynasties in sports, and if they have one thing in common it is this-if you want to take them down, do it before the Finals. Dynasties see the finish line and cut the tape. Regardless if it is the World Series (late '90's Yankees), Super Bowl (Steelers, 49ers) or NBA Finals (Jordan Bulls, Shaq Lakers, etc).
The NFL season comes to this. This one time I will put my heart above my head when predicting. The New York Giants have been on fire, actually playing better in the playoffs than New England. Eli Manning has found his mojo, and remembered that he is in fact a Manning. There is a team of destiny in this year's Super Bowl. New York Giants 31, New England Patriots 26.
