OAUG Survey Finds Majority of Enterprises Prepare For Oracle Fusion
Publish Date : 1/25/2008 3:31:00 AM Source : Application Development News
The Oracle Applications Users Group (OAUG), the world’s largest user knowledgebase for Oracle® Applications users, announced that a majority of Oracle-based enterprises intend to upgrade to Oracle’s Fusion middleware infrastructure within the next two years, according to a survey completed by members of the OAUG and conducted by Unisphere Media (Chatham, N.J.) in partnership with Noetix (Redmond, Wash.).
The purpose of the survey was to measure the attitudes of users of Oracle’s major enterprise platforms, including Oracle E-Business Suite, PeopleSoft and Siebel, toward Oracle’s Fusion middleware solutions, which offer an upgrade to the major enterprise platform owned by the vendor.
Key findings from the study include the following:
- Business requirements are leading to middleware adoption, yet, one out of four enterprises are uncertain of the value of middleware to their operations.
- At least two out of every five Oracle-based enterprises will increase spending in 2008 to bring in new middleware solutions.
- Most companies running PeopleSoft or Siebel said they would stay with the product lines as long as they are supported.
- Most sites intend to move to Oracle Fusion middleware within the next two years. The vast majority of Oracle-based enterprises are likely to follow Oracle’s lead in terms of middleware. One of every four enterprises is using middleware offerings from other vendors.
Surveys were announced to all OAUG members and were conducted via a Web-based survey instrument, generating 449 responses. Survey respondents represented a wide range of Oracle applications sites, job titles and organization sizes. Of the respondents, 24 percent came from manufacturing companies; 15 percent represented government, educational or non-profit organizations; and seven percent represented the utility, transportation or communications sector.
