A UK-based Web site devoted to reviewing the Internet's best freebies has this week announced the launch of their new Web site.
FreebieList.com, which specialises in reviewing freebies such as product samples, games, magazines, software and webmaster services, is now officially online having been in a test mode for a number of weeks.
"We set out to give the site a cosmetic face lift, but we also wanted to ensure the site remained as user-friendly as possible," said Andy Varley, owner and webmaster of FreebieList.com.
The brighter colours and fresher appearance appeals to a more youthful audience, although the site's primary purpose of reviewing the Internet's most sought-after freebies, all in one place, remains the same as ever.
Millions of Internet surfers worldwide go online with the sole intention of obtaining something for free. Users can acquire all kinds of freebies, ranging from shampoo and toothpaste samples to perfume and teabags. This trend has been prominent in the United States for many years, but now the UK has seen a similar surge in interest. The rise in demand for free samples is excellent news for companies, who can tempt consumers to purchase their commercial products with smaller 'test' sizes.
"As more people get online, we see companies taking full advantage of the Internet's popularity. Free samples are becoming increasingly popular as a marketing tool, although companies often underestimate the demand for their products," says Andy Varley.
Concern over the demand for free samples is heightened by a growing sector of Internet surfers who request as many freebies as they can find, rather than selecting products that interest them. But with an increasing number of companies offering free samples, the benefits appear to be outweighing the negative aspects. And with the increasing number of companies using TV commercials to steer people in the direction of free samples, this trend looks set to continue.
