Yorkshire Terrier Training - How To Bring A New Pet Into Your Home That Your Yorkie Will Accept
Publish Date : 4/2/2008 2:29:00 AM Source : Animals and Nature News Onlypunjab.com
Yorkshire terriers can be wonderful pets. The problem arises when there are other pets in your home. You Yorkie may become aggressive, possessive, or withdrawn when you bring another dog or cat into your household. There are ways to train your Yorkshire terrier when this happens so that you can regain peace and tranquility in your home. Here are some tips on what to do when your Yorkie reacts to a new pet in a negative way.
- Hold your Yorkie when you first introduce a new pet into your home. This will make your dog feel loved instead of rejected. Just the act of having your dog up higher than the new pet will be comforting.
- Make sure your dog has her own area in which to sleep, play, and eat. Give the new pet her own area as well, so that neither dog will become territorial or aggressive.
- Get down on the floor with both dogs and allow them to get to know each other slowly. The way you introduce two animals in the very beginning will have a big impact on how they relate to each other later on.
- Do not allow the new pet to play with your Yorkie's toys. Just like with a small child, no one likes to share with the new kid. Find a toy for the new dog that will belong just to them.
- Do not leave the animals alone together for the first few days, until you know for sure that they will get along. It is best to separate them using an enclosure of some type.
By following these tips you can be sure that everyone will get along together and that you can enjoy having more than one pet in your home.
