InterDigital Appoints Lawrence Shay President of Patent Licensing

InterDigital, Inc. (NASDAQ:IDCC) today announced that Lawrence F. Shay has been appointed President of its patent holding subsidiaries. Prior to this appointment, Mr. Shay served as InterDigital’s Chief Legal Officer.

In his new role, Mr. Shay will be responsible for overseeing all activities pertaining to InterDigital’s patent licensing business, including managing the company’s intellectual property assets, negotiating and administering license agreements, and supervising IPR-related litigations. Mr. Shay will continue to report directly to William J. Merritt, President and Chief Executive Officer of the parent company, InterDigital, Inc.

“Larry is the ideal person to provide leadership for all of our patent licensing activities as we work to maximize the value of our intellectual property portfolio,” commented Mr. Merritt. “Larry has done an outstanding job handling the legal affairs of the company over the past seven years. During that time, Larry has taken on additional responsibilities, most recently assuming management of the company’s patent litigations and delivering a number of successes.”

“InterDigital’s key objective remains securing revenue on every 3G mobile device sold,” stated Mr. Shay. “We are entering a very important period for the company with respect to our licensing and litigation efforts. I am confident that our intellectual property assets, financial strength, and talented professionals can all effectively be brought to bear in support of our goal of driving shareholder value.”

Mr. Shay also will assume the role of Executive Vice President of IP of the parent company, InterDigital, Inc. Bruce G. Bernstein, Chief Intellectual Property Officer of InterDigital, will continue to manage the company’s patent portfolio, reporting to Mr. Shay. Mr. Shay will maintain his role as Chief Legal Officer pending a review of candidates for the position. In the interim, Steven W. Sprecher, currently InterDigital’s Deputy General Counsel, will assume day-to-day management of the Legal Department. Mr. Sprecher joined the company in 2007, having served for the past eight years as Vice President Legal at Mindspeed Technologies, and prior to that, as of Counsel at Gibson, Dunn and & Crutcher LLP in Irvine, California.

Mr. Shay began his career at InterDigital in 2001 as Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary. He earned his law degree with honors from the Temple University School of Law in Philadelphia in 1983. Mr. Shay is a 1980 magna cum laude graduate of Saint Joseph’s University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics.
