Application Security, Inc., the leading provider of database security solutions for the enterprise, today announced its support for the January Oracle CPU (critical patch update), released yesterday. The latest CPU, which includes eight security fixes at the database level, cements Application Security Inc.s industry leadership as the only database security company to not only play such an integral role in Oracles CPU process, but also to provide complete protection through updates to its database security suite, DbProtect.
For the first time, in this CPU Oracle has credited an external researcher, Esteban Martinez Favo, not only for discovering a vulnerability, but for collaborating with Oracle to ensure that customers receive a working fix of the highest quality. Mr. Favo is a member of Application Security, Inc.s Team SHATTER (Security Heuristics of Application Testing Technology for Enterprise Research), the industrys most recognized database vulnerability research team.

Effective database security requires a detailed knowledge of not only how databases function, but also of how they are vulnerable, said Ted Julian, vice president of marketing and strategy for Application Security, Inc. Though our SHATTER Team is routinely credited for the discovery of specific vulnerabilities, we are particularly proud to have one of our research staff receive this type of acknowledgement, demonstrating Oracles confidence in our abilities, and underscoring our commitment to provide best-of-breed security for our customers database applications.
As with previous Oracle CPUs, Application Security, Inc. will update its flagship DbProtect database security suite with the appropriate scanning checks and monitoring filters through its monthly ASAP Update (Application Security Automatic Protection) process. DbProtect monitoring filters for these vulnerabilities, which will be available within a few weeks, allow customers to protect themselves during the deployment of the new patch across their database infrastructure. DbProtect scanning checks will be available shortly thereafter.
As the threat to enterprise data continues to become more sophisticated and targeted, its essential for our customers to have the most up-to-date protection, said Toby Weiss, president and CEO, Application Security, Inc. With the industrys largest collection of known database vulnerabilities, were able to continually update our DbProtect suite with the latest protection and serve as a strategic partner to database application vendors.
Built on the industrys most extensive knowledge-base of database-specific vulnerabilities, DbProtect is acknowledged as the industrys most complete database security solution - combining database discovery, scanning, vulnerability assessment, real-time activity monitoring, and auditing. The comprehensive, integrated solution allows organizations to secure their most sensitive data from internal and external threats while also ensuring that those organizations meet or exceed regulatory compliance and audit requirements.
