At its Fourth Annual General Members Assembly (GMA), The Open Security Exchange (OSE), the leading independent industry organization focused on the Convergence of Physical and IT Security, announced the results of recent elections to its 2008 Board of Directors. The new Board will continue the OSE’s commitment to delivering valuable convergence tools and education to the industry.
Laurie Aaron – Chairman- Elect
Laurie has been involved with the OSE since inception in 2003 and leads the Board for 2008. She has served as the Vice Chairman for the previous three years providing enthusiastic leadership, continuity and motivation to the membership. Laurie is Director of Sales for Quantum Secure, a security, risk & compliance software development company based in San Jose, CA.
John Szczygiel – Vice Chairman
John is President of MATE-Intelligent Video, a security analytics company. John was nominated and elected the Vice Chairman position and has vast experience in physical security industry technology and best practices as well as experience in motivating and managing professional organizations to successfully accomplish goals.
Greg Sarrail - Treasurer
Greg recently joined HID as Director, IT Channel and offers IT-centric knowledge and experience gained from the IT industry. Greg was previously employed by NEC, where he led sales and marketing for their Identity and Access Management business. Greg offers the OSE a fresh perspective, creative ideas and a strong desire to help drive innovation through the convergence of physical and IT security.
John Becker – Secretary
John is the Director of Strategic Sales for Tyco International. Tyco is a founding member of the OSE and John will continue the strong presence and support Tyco has provided since the OSE’s beginning. Prior to joining Tyco, John was the Assistant Commissioner for Security & Technology at O’Hare and Midway Airports, in Chicago. As a former end-user of technology and security solutions, John provides a unique perspective to OSE strategies and goals.
Gary Klinefelter – Immediate Past Chairman
Gary is the Vice President of Strategic Innovation at HID Global and has led the OSE the past 3 years in the role of Chairman. Having recently completed a succession planning period with the OSE Board, Gary moves to the Chair of Standards at the Security Industry Association (SIA). SIA and OSE have successfully co-operated in convergence initiatives throughout 2007 and continue to identify common goals and deliver education to their members and stakeholders.
Shayne Bates – Advisor to the Board of Directors
Shayne advises the Board on initiatives and has been central to the development and implementation of a new strategic plan. Instrumental in the move to evolve partnerships and a new operating structure, Shayne is Principal of the Security Consulting practice at Koffel Associates, involved in designing and engineering working convergence solutions for clients.
The OSE Convergence Council
Also recognized at the GMA were the OSE Convergence Council Members. This team of security practitioners continues to be the anchor of the OSE, sharing their expertise with the industry and contributing to the development of the OSE’s tools, specifications and best practice guidelines for converging security systems.

The Convergence Roadmapsm Tool
At the GMA, the OSE demonstrated version 1.0 of the Convergence Roadmap, a multi-faceted tool that enables illustrative, diagnostic, and theoretical aids to enable convergence. The Convergence Roadmapsm provides definitions and relational data to assist corporations and organizations in developing their own roadmap to convergence. The tool orchestrates strategies, tactical activity and operational needs as they pertain to security business drivers. The Convergence Council has been instrumental in the development of the Roadmap, compiling data drawn from their experiences as security practitioners. The Convergence Roadmapsm tool is available on-line to all OSE members.
