1st Annual 'Standing Up For Life' In Oakland Walk
Publish Date : 12/19/2007 3:16:00 AM   Source : Culture and Community News Onlypunjab.com

Dr. Alveda C. King, the niece of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., will lead an estimated 100 people at 12:00 Noon in downtown Oakland, California, proclaiming "Abortion Hurts Women" in the First Annual "Standing Up for Life" in Oakland Walk, Friday, January 18, 2008.

Dr. Alveda C. King and Black Genocide founder Dr. Clenard H. Childress Jr. will speak at the Walk, which this year takes place just after Dr. King's birthday. The Walk is held on the Friday closest to the anniversary of the Supreme Court's January 22, 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling. The Walk begins and ends at Oakland City Hall at 1 Frank H. Ogawa Plaza, between 14th and 15th Streets at Clay Street.

"If the dream of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. is to live, our babies must live. Our mothers must choose life," said Dr. Alveda C. King, the niece of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Ms. King lost two children to abortion and is also mother to six living children. Her father was slain civil rights activist A.D. King, and their home in Birmingham, Alabama, was bombed during the civil rights struggles. Ms. King was jailed for her stand against segregation. "The greatest injustice we face is the denial of the right to life. Without life, no other rights exist."

The "Standing Up For Life" In Oakland Walk, is sponsored by the Issues4Life Foundation (http://www.issues4life.org), and "will be a galvanizing event for people of conscience who seek social justice for all of our citizens, born and unborn," said Dr. Childress, who has spoken at the Walk for Life West Coast, in San Francisco, each year since it began in 2005. Childress, a Pastor of the New Calvary Baptist in New Jersey, is also Northeast Regional Director of the Life Education and Resource Network.

The Issues4Life Foundation is dedicated to addressing the issues surrounding the inviolability or sanctity of human life in the African-American community. Abortion in the African-American community has become a form of genocide. "Our children are dying faster than we are able to replenish," said Issues4Life Foundation Founder, Walter B. Hoye II.

The African-American community is facing a crisis as the respect for the integrity of human existence is being undermined by both the abortion industry and the ever-increasing impact of biotechnology.

Our mission is to strengthen the African-American community by educating her leadership about the impact of abortion and the moral responsibility of biotechnology. By working with other "like-minded" individuals and organizations, the Issues4Life Foundation can see a future where those most vulnerable to abuse in the African-American community are defended and human dignity is promoted.
