ON Semiconductor (Nasdaq: ONNN), a leading global supplier of efficient power solutions, will exhibit energy efficient home office and home entertainment stations run entirely by power supplies and power adapters designed with the company’s award-winning GreenPoint™ power efficient open reference designs. The live demonstrations will take place at the company’s booth (No. 210) from Feb. 25-27.
Each demonstration station will be configured to allow visitors to use the home electronics equipment. The office will include an energy efficient notebook computer, computer monitor, printer, DSL modem and mobile phone charger. The home entertainment electronics will include an LCD TV, a game box, and power supplies for a set top box (STB) and digital-to-analog (DTA) converter boxes.
With five new GreenPoint™ solution introductions at APEC, ON Semiconductor now offers a total of 12 open reference designs. Each design provides a blueprint for a power supply or power adapter solution, proven to meet - and in some cases beat - evolving energy saving requirements. The company’s GreenPoint™ solutions simplify power design, reduce design-cycle time and are cost competitive.
According to calculations by Ecos Consulting, the net savings from implementation of efficient power supplies – both internal and external - is estimated at 84 billion kilowatt hours (kWh) per year globally and about 25 billion kWh per year in the U.S. The value of the U.S. savings alone would be about $2.3 billion a year at current electricity prices.
"Increasingly, attention is being drawn to the growing energy consumed across the globe by IT and consumer electronics products and their contribution to rising utility bills and carbon emissions,” said Andrew Fanara, director of ENERGY STAR® Product Development at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. “Highly efficient power supplies can take a bite out of this worrisome trend."
The following GreenPoint™ reference design solutions will be demonstrated at APEC in Booth 210.
Home Office Station
90 W external ac-dc power adapter for notebook computer
60 W external ac-dc power adapter for computer monitor
40 W external ac-dc power adapter for printer
16 W external ac-dc power adapter for DSL modem
5 W external ac-dc power adapter for mobile phone charger
Home Entertainment Station
220 W internal ac-dc power supply for LCD TV
200 W external ac-dc power adapter for game box
50 W internal ac-dc power supply for STB
8 W internal ac-dc power supply for DTA
“ON Semiconductor has been focused on delivering green-technology solutions that are both power efficient and cost competitive since 2005,” said Andy Williams, vice president and general manager of ON Semiconductor’s Automotive and Power Regulation Group. “Again and again we have proven with our GreenPoint™ reference designs that highly efficient power supplies and adapters can be brought to market today for a full set of advanced electronic appliances. Customers have welcomed the technology and the ease of our design. We expect ON Semiconductor’s energy efficiency improvements to help deliver real and tangible benefits to the environment.”
