NewStep Networks Inc., a market and technology leader in seamless session management solutions for carriers and enterprises, today unveiled its latest industry-standard convergence platform, CSN 3.5. CSN 3.5 delivers next-generation fixed-mobile convergence features ideal for enterprises looking to mobilize their business applications as part of an overall unified communications strategy.
The idea behind Unified Communications (UC) is to give people flexibility in when, where and how they communicate,” said Matthias Machowinski, Directing Analyst, Enterprise Voice and Data, at Infonetics Research. “By embedding communications in business processes and leveraging things like presence, enterprises can significantly improve their agility and responsiveness.”
NewStep focused the 3.5 release on delivering a better enterprise experience through introduction of advanced presence capabilities, and integration with enterprise applications, including Microsoft’s Office Communication Server 2007.
Increased benefits to the enterprise user include:
A broadened range of IP PBX support including the Nortel CS1K, and additional support for Cisco Call Manager, Avaya Communications Manager and the Asterisk IP PBX, including the ability to use typical desk phone features from the dual-mode phone while in WiFi
Enhanced enterprise seamless roaming client for Windows Mobile 6 devices, including automatic reconfiguration and optimal call routing based on location
Support for SIP Presence integration
Third-party call-control interface for integration with other business applications
More savings, increased flexibility and improved communications experience by adding access to thousands of Wi-Fi hot spots to the dual-mode handset
As part of delivering a better enterprise user experience, CSN 3.5 also introduces flexible user configurations for users to develop ringing profiles, including options for sequential ringing, simultaneous ring, and staggered ringing. The release also allows for time-of-day/day-of-week call routing, which provides the user with more flexibility and control over when and where they can be reached, as well as the creation of profiles for network selection of voice and data call delivery.
“Fixed-mobile convergence is more than just extending mobility to the enterprise workforce,” explained Shannon Bell, vice president of product management for NewStep. “Enterprises need solutions that improve productivity and cut costs, while giving employees the option of making real-time communications choices based on convenience and quality. NewStep’s solutions provide the necessary tools to enable enterprises to improve efficiency and make further progress into full adoption of integrated, unified communications.”
