Philosophy Communication, Inc., a Denver-based marketing and public relations agency, was honored as a winner at the national 2007 PR News Nonprofit PR Awards. Philosophy's campaign for the Kit Faragher Foundation, "Live. Love. Laugh. Learn." beat out four other finalists and hundreds of entrants for this honor. The PR News Nonprofit Award recognizes professionals who make communication matter in the nonprofit marketplace.
The communication campaign introduced the Colorado community to the Kit Faragher Foundation using media relations and marketing tactics to generate awareness of the foundation with a goal of collecting at least $10,000 in donations at Grass Roots Ultimate Benefit Tournament (GRUB). This annual Ultimate Frisbee fundraising tournament is hosted by the Grass Roots Ultimate club in Boulder, Colo. The Kit Faragher Foundation annually provides college scholarships to graduating Colorado high-school students. The foundation honors the memory of Kit Faragher, who died during the September 11th attacks.
Philosophy first developed a logo, tagline and marketing collateral to create the Kit Faragher Foundation's look and feel. The PR team then launched a media campaign to promote the GRUB fundraising event by working with local reporters to tell the tournament and the charity's story. Other innovative communication materials, including t-shirts and event flyers, helped publicize the charity's involvement in the event. The campaign resulted in 10 print and broadcast articles about the Kit Faragher Foundation and the GRUB tournament. GRUB raised more than $11,000 for the Kit Faragher Foundation, a 60 percent increase from previous years and the most the tournament has ever raised.
