William B. Warren Joins Morris & McVeigh LLP
Publish Date : 1/15/2008 3:19:00 AM   Source : American Local News Onlypunjab.com

Morris & McVeigh LLP today announced that William B. Warren has joined the firm as of counsel. Mr. Warren specializes in trust and estates and tax law, and has long been recognized in Best Lawyers in America as a leader in the field of trust and estates.

For the past forty-eight years, Mr. Warren has been practicing trust and estates and tax law at Dewey Ballantine LLP (now Dewey & LeBoeuf LLP), where he became a partner in 1968. In his new position, he will be continuing his work in estate planning and administration and his roles in not-for-profit organizations.

Richard J. Miller, Jr., a member of Morris & McVeigh said, Bill was a pioneer in the development of insurance and foreign trusts as significant estate planning devices, and has had wide leadership experience in charitable planning throughout the United States. These are important areas for us as well, and we welcome Bills insights and expertise.

Mr. Warren has served as a Regent, American College of Trust and Estates Council, Chair of the Fiduciary Income Tax Committee, Tax Section, New York State Bar Association, and as member of the Surrogates Court Committee of the Bar Association of the City of New York.

Mr. Warren added, I am delighted to be joining Morris & McVeigh which I have long admired as one of the leaders in the trusts and estates bar. I much look forward to working with its superb staff of estate and trust planners and administrators.

Mr. Warren has been responsible for planning a number of major estates, many involving transfers to younger generations of interests in family businesses and real estate holding companies. He has overseen the administration of many complex decedents' estates both in the United States and abroad, and has published a number of articles and lectured extensively on T&E and tax law. In addition, he has had extensive litigation experience, in some cases as counsel for objectants to probate, and in others representing fiduciaries of wills and trusts under attack. He played a major role in the Seward Johnson Will contest, in which he represented the Family Foundation.

Mr. Warren is vice president of the Academy of American Poets, and serves on a number of charitable and educational boards including St. Johns College of Annapolis and Santa Fe; the John Carter Brown Library, Providence, RI; Foundation for Cultural Review, publisher of The New Criterion; and The Hudson Review. He is also Chairman of Institute for Schools of the Future in New York City; Chairman Emeritus of The Oscar B. Cintas Foundation, Trustee of the Alice E. and Arthur F. Adams Foundation of Miami, and Trustee of the Hodson Trust of Baltimore, MD.

Mr. Warren is a founding member of the Bankers and Lawyers Advisory Committee to the New York Philharmonic, and since 1995, an Advisory Director of the Metropolitan Opera Association. He is a past president of the Grolier Club, former member of the Council of Fellows of the J. Pierpont Morgan Library, and is a Trustee of the American Friends of the British Library.

Morris & McVeigh LLP is one of the oldest law firms in New York City and the state of New York and has been in continuous existence since its founding in 1862. The firm offers comprehensive legal services to foreign and domestic clients both individual and corporate, to partnerships, other business entities and to various not-for-profit organizations and foundations. These services include matters relating to estate planning, probate and estate administration, the law of Wills and Trusts, matrimonial matters, income, estate and gift taxation, corporate, securities and general business law, real estate and commercial law and general civil practice. The firm also has offices in Albany, New York.
