Moovera Merges Wi-Fi with FLASH-OFDM® and Appoints Finnish Distributor
Publish Date : 12/19/2007 7:30:00 AM   Source : United Kingdom News Onlypunjab.com

Moovera Networks, a leading developer of fixed and mobile wireless access systems, today announced that its Moovbox product line of broadband gateways now supports FLASH-OFDM from Qualcomm Flarion Technologies for cellular wide area network connectivity. FLASH-OFDM (Fast Low-latency Access with Seamless Handoff - Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) is an innovative wireless technology designed to deliver advanced Internet services in the mobile environment.

Broadband networks utilizing FLASH-OFDM have been deployed in various countries around the world, most recently in Finland. To address the market opportunity in Finland and other countries in Scandinavia and the Baltic, Moovera has appointed a new distributor Daimler Finland Oy who will develop sales and marketing activities throughout the region.

"Support for a wide range of carrier-class backhaul technologies is a key competitive advantage of the Moovbox product line," said Jim Baker, Moovera CEO and founder. "FLASH-OFDM is an important technology not least as it can operate at low frequencies that cover much wider areas than traditional voice and data wireless networks such as 3G and WiMAX. By merging FLASH-OFDM with Wi-Fi access, our Moovbox gateway products can deliver Internet access to any Wi-Fi enabled device for industrial, public safety and commercial hotspot applications anywhere there is FLASH-OFDM coverage."

The Finnish Government granted a license to Digita Oy in 2005 to build and operate a mobile wireless network at 450MHz with a provision to lease the network to all service providers on equal conditions. Digita has signed agreements on the delivery of broadband services across Digita's @450 network with several service operators. The network currently covers broad areas of Southern Finland with the goal of nationwide coverage by the end of 2009.

"We're delighted to welcome Moovera as a supplier of compatible equipment for the @450 network," said Juha Malmberg, Digita Vice President. "With the large installed base of Wi-Fi enabled devices in Finland such as laptops, PDAs and mobile phones, it makes complete sense to offer devices like the Moovbox that bridge between Wi-Fi and FLASH-OFDM so that as many people as possible can take advantage of our high-speed network."

Moovera has appointed Helsinki-based Daimler Finland Oy as distributor for Moovbox products and services throughout Scandinavia and Baltic countries including Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. "The opportunities for Moovera's product line in Finland and beyond are very exciting," said Niclas Berg, Daimler CEO. "Public transport operators are looking for innovative solutions that deliver Internet connectivity to their vehicles for passenger Wi-Fi, IP cameras and GPS tracking, while service providers are exploring ways to leverage the proliferation of Wi-Fi devices to expand their enterprise offerings. Moovera's fixed and mobile gateways coupled with FLASH-OFDM and 3G/HSPA provide an excellent solution to these and many other business scenarios."

The Moovbox F Series fixed broadband gateway is a weatherproof outdoor Wi-Fi access point and cellular router for deployment on street furniture such as lighting columns. The Moovbox M Series mobile gateway is a ruggedized in-vehicle Wi-Fi access point and cellular router, offering multiple wide area network (WAN) radios for automatic failover between carriers, and features built-in GPS for real-time positioning. Moovbox products also offer secure Ethernet for IP-CCTV, DVR and telematics equipment with remote in-bound access for device control. The multi-user MoovManage service provides real-time vehicle tracking, schedule adherence monitoring, remote device configuration, and Wi-Fi portal and usage statistics.
