Mobile in Vietnam:
Although mobile marketing initially appeared in Vietnam in 2006, the past two years have witnessed widespread growth and penetration rates like no one would have imagined in 2006. Research by the Vietnam Post and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) reveals that Vietnam is now home to more than 30 million cell phone owners. Mobile consumers have taken a liking to many of the newest mobile marketing techniques. VNPT reports widespread acceptance of mobile marketing campaigns that enable users to interact with their favorite game shows. Additionally, many Vietnamese banks have instituted mobile banking systems, which allow users to monitor their accounts via their mobile phone and even pay bills through texting capabilities.
Room For Improvement:
Although no one can deny the success of mobile media in Vietnam, there is still room for improvement. VNPT found that "many Vietnamese mobile phone customers 'misunderstand that advertising on mobile phones is sending spam messages.'" Once mobile marketers can bypass this misunderstanding, the acceptance and use of mobile devices will surely increase even more.
Mobile Media Really is a Global Phenomenon:
VNPT's research proves that mobile media really is a global phenomenon. There are very few regions throughout the world that are not affected by the changes and developments in the mobile environment. Because of this, mobile marketers have an enormous audience to send their messages to and a high percentage of people willing to listen. We continue to preach the effect that brands will have if they don't jump on board now. Imagine getting involved with Socail Media before the Boom of Facebook and MySpace. The ball is in your court. Do you go for the Slam Dunk or just take a missed free throw?
