W.P. Hickman Systems, Inc., a Serefex Corporation (OTCBB: SFXC, www.Serefex.com) company, has won its second SpecRight Excellence in Design Award from the National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA). The award was presented at the 121st annual NRCA convention and International Roofing Expo, which ended Saturday in Las Vegas.
W.P. Hickman Systems received the award for work on the Pacific Garden Mission in Chicago, one of the country’s most environmentally friendly buildings. Opened in October 2007 and designed by Tigerman McCurry Architects, LTD, the Mission is the longest continuously operating homeless shelter in the U.S. and its new building is a showcase for the latest advancements in construction – including a “green” sustainable roof built with products from W.P. Hickman, the only non-Illinois-based supplier on the project.
W.P. Hickman Systems’ products were used for the Mission’s most visible green feature – a green roofing system that incorporates a solar-reflective membrane and vegetative modules. The roof provides significant environmental benefits to the new building, the neighborhood, and to the future of Chicago. Pete Diaspro, W.P. Hickman’s representative in Chicago, said that the Mission “features an environmentally responsible design and provides valuable benefits to the at-risk population in the city.”
The NRCA created the SpecRight (www.SpecRight.net) Excellence in Design Award program to recognize those who design long-lasting, energy-efficient, environmentally friendly roof systems according to accepted industry practices. Architects, specifiers, roof consultants and roofing contractors are eligible. In 2006, W.P. Hickman won its first Excellence in Design Award for work on “The Greening of Hamerschlag Hall” project at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh.
As part of its award, W.P. Hickman Systems received $2,500, which according to Brian Dunn, president and CEO of W.P. Hickman, is being donated to the Mission.
“We are honored to win this very prestigious award from the NRCA for a second time,” Mr. Dunn said. “This peer recognition for our dedication and corporate strength is very special indeed. It demonstrates our ability to provide the best solutions in the industry with respect to the specific needs of our clients."
