We all go through phases of wanting to better ourselves, going to the gym, losing weight, learning new languages.
Learning to speak Spanish is probably one of the highest on our list. Most of us at sometime or another has studied French or German, so what is the appeal of the Spanish Language?
Sex appeal, Pure and simple.
More people are learning to speak Spanish to attract the opposite sex, men attracting women and women attracting men, gone are the days of cheap bars and belching through a plate of nacho’s, in today’s culture it has become more increasingly popular to whisk away your partner to sunnier climates for that inevitable mating ritual. Spain, once the home of the drunken yobs drinking until they were nearly blind, looking for anything in a short skirt… Nowadays the home of the romancing lovers.
So you land in the hot sunshine, manhandle your luggage through customs; walk outside to jump into the nearest cab to take you to – where? You have no idea where you are going because you can’t pronounce the name of the village, never mind the street where you need to be. At that instant you feel an absolute fool.
So learning to speak Spanish has now become popular, whether it is for getting a taxi to the right village or finding out where the nearest toilets are.
But how does one go about learning to speak Spanish? There are so many different ways. The most popular by far is the home study course as there is nothing worse than sitting in a classroom with a group of your peers when you are asked a question which you do not know the answer to (especially men).
Home studying is probably the best way to learn lots of things in this day and age due to us having to work for a living. The benefits are countless: you can study in your own time, you don’t miss out on lessons due to overtime, you can study when you like, no embarrassing classroom Q&A. But like anything learning to speak Spanish at home may have its disadvantages, there will be no peer pressure to spur you on, you may become lethargic and start putting off your studies for a day or two (this can quickly become weeks).
When starting out, you should look in your local papers to find evening classes (if you want a classroom environment) which you can work into your schedule, you should also talk to friends and family to find out if they know anywhere that conducts Spanish classes, once you have exhausted the local subjects, you can now advance onto “the phone book”, that never ending list of information with everything you need but nothing that you want, when you want it. Once you have moved on from the phone book you will probably find yourself looking through the largest directory on the planet “The Internet”. Wait though, if you type into a search engine “how to learn Spanish” you will be inundated with millions of results, so which one is the best? This is where I come in.
Look for recommendations and testimonials, and not to sound too obvious, but a Spanish person teaching the language might be a good idea!
Whilst you are searching through all of the pages you will come across websites with big headlines “Learn How to Speak Spanish” for only $7.00, please! In this life there are a lot of things which cost $7.00 but learning a new language is not one of them. This may take some time but read through the web pages thoroughly until you find something which stands out and makes you actually want to learn how to speak Spanish, you are going to spend money on this course and at the end of it you need to know that you will be able to speak the language.
