In 1997, Mr. Carmichael founded the GeneTree DNA Testing Center, which was the first online consumer-focused DNA testing company. While with GeneTree, Mr. Carmichael was responsible for placing the first human DNA paternity test kits on the shelves of a national retail drugstore chain. In 2003, Mr. Carmichael founded the Biotech Learning Institute, the first company to offer a catalog of single-user e-learning courses for the life science and clinical research industries. In 2006, the Institute merged with GeneEd.
