International 450 Association holds Plenary Meeting #8 in Lisbon, Portugal

The International 450 Association (IA 450), a non profit international organization for the promotion of CDMA2000® utilization in the 450 MHz band (CDMA450®), held Plenary #8 in Lisbon, Portugal on October 18 2007. The meeting followed the Informa 450MHz Digitalisation Conference. Keynote speakers at the conference included Dr Paulo Campos, Secretary of State, Ministry of Public Works and Telecommunications, Portugal and Carlos Pacheco, CEO, Zapp, Portugal who are a CDMA450 Operator and a member of the IA450.
The members voted to fill four vacant board positions. Those elected were Artem Orange (Diallog) Pakistan, Vadim Belyavskiy (Skylink) Russia, Johan Jober (Nordisk Mobiltelefon) Sweden and Frank Mulholland, Alcatel-Lucent. Colin Chandler, Qualcomm Europe was re-elected to serve another two-year term as Vice Chairman. Tina Radford, Chairman of IA450 congratulated newly and re-appointed IA450 board members.
“The IA450 board has a key role to play in supporting the needs of CDMA450 operators globally particularly as the market continues to expand. I look forward to working with the board to further develop CDMA450 in a vibrant marketplace,” said Radford.
Radford also presented two awards for outstanding contribution to the success of CDMA450. These individual’s work have been instrumental in promoting CDMA450 technology globally. The recipients were Carlos Killian, IA450 consultant and Safwan Zaheer, Government & International Affairs, Alcatel-Lucent. Zaheer has consulted with start-ups on 450MHz spectrum issues and worked with administrations and operators worldwide to promote the technology. In addition, he has led various activities in the International Telecommunications Union and other international bodies to help identify 450-470MHz for IMT. Killian has lobbied regulators in Latin America to promote the technology and provided guidance and support to operators interested in deploying CDMA450 networks.

The International 450 Association promotes the use of CDMA2000® in the 450MHz spectrum and surrounding bands (CDMA450) on a global basis. The primary focus is to provide guidance and support to Operators around the world interested in deploying CDMA450 technology and propose policy positions and recommended actions relating to regulatory and standards matters at a national, regional, and international level.
