In its fourth such announcement in five months, Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft LLP, one of the world’s leading law firms, announced today that two intellectual property litigators with International Trade Commission expertise, Kent R. Stevens and Evelyn G. Heilbrunn, based in Washington, D.C., have joined the firm’s Intellectual Property Group.
“We are excited to add highly-respected and experienced practitioners like Kent and Evvie to our burgeoning intellectual property practice,” said Robert O. Link, Jr., Cadwalader’s Chairman and Managing Partner. “Their arrival is further evidence of the firm’s successful efforts to diversify our practices and also underscores our commitment to building a premier intellectual property practice focused on providing the highest caliber of legal advice and client service.”
“We take great pride in welcoming Kent and Evvie to our Intellectual Property Group,” said Cadwalader’s Litigation Department Chairman Gregory A. Markel. “With their skill and experience, they will be important assets not only to the Litigation Department but to our Washington office, which now numbers more than 80 attorneys, 50 of whom are litigators.”
The head of the firm’s Intellectual Property Group, Christopher Hughes, noted that "the addition of Kent and Evvie significantly enhances our IP litigation capabilities and ensures that we can handle, 'under one roof,' all complex patent litigation in the ITC as well as in federal district courts."
Mr. Stevens concentrates in international trade aspects of intellectual property litigation, including a specialty in Section 337 investigations before the ITC. For more than ten years, he served in various capacities with the ITC, including as a Senior Investigative Attorney for the ITC’s Office of Unfair Import Investigations. He also has experience in proceedings relating to ITC investigations before the U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. He is a former President of the ITC Trial Lawyers Association and a frequent speaker on international trade issues relating to intellectual property litigation. Mr. Stevens earned his B.A., M.P.A., and J.D. from Drake University and an LL.M. in International and Comparative Law from the Georgetown University Law Center.
Ms. Heilbrunn has almost twenty years of trial experience on behalf of Fortune 500 and international clients. Her patent litigation experience focuses on Section 337 matters before the ITC and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Her significant trial work has included leading multi-office teams through the complexities of ITC practice. Prior to joining Cadwalader, Ms. Heilbrunn practiced most recently at Morgan and Finnegan LLP and also at Fish & Richardson P.C.
