ITA’s Salary Survey is the most representative and extensive report available for companies and positions in technology fields in Illinois. It covers 37 separate positions, which are common to many Illinois-based technology companies, and ranges all of the way from CEO to entry-level software developers.

Survey highlights include:

• Strong income growth in Illinois’ technology community: 83 percent of respondents expect their staff salaries to rise at greater than the current 2.6 percent rate of inflation (as measured by the Consumer Price Index for the first half of 2006 in Illinois).
• Considerable projected salary increase: on average, respondents expected a 12.2 percent increase in salary for staff and a 10.7 percent increase for management in the upcoming fiscal year.
• Technologists are compensated for their expertise: the position with the second-highest total compensation within the C-suite is the CIO/CTO, who brought home more than $204,000 on average ($151,680 median).
• Sales executives’ salaries are significantly increasing: on average, vice presidents of sales took home nearly $208,000 last year ($170,000 median), as compared to a 2006 average about $192,000. The vice president of sales’ average trails only the CEO in total compensation.

The 2007 Salary Survey was developed and executed by the ITA Strategic Intelligence committees and was administered between August and November 2007. Historical data covers the 2006 fiscal year and respondents were requested to consider the upcoming fiscal year.
