School districts in Larimer and Weld counties named Heath Construction the construction manager and general contractor (CM/CG) for two diverse projects: renovation of a large church into a high school and creation of a collegiate-level track-and-field facility.
Heath, which has built more than 40 schools and educational facilities in Colorado and surrounding states in the last decade, was awarded the work following competitive processes.
Thompson School District R2-J in Loveland selected Heath to transform the 40,000-square-foot Immanuel Lutheran Church into an updated facility for Harold Ferguson High School, a 35-year-old alternative high school. The $2.7 million renovation requires architectural modifications and replacement of all mechanical and electrical systems.
Platte Valley School District, Weld Re-7, chose Heath to construct a $1 million, collegiate-level track-and-field facility for Platte Valley High School.
Randy DeMario, Heath Construction president, credits Heath’s people and the company’s school-construction experience in winning the two jobs.
“Our constructability review and analysis identifies possible construction alternatives and provides schools with reliable budget estimates,” DeMario explained. “Heath people have the expertise to meet client goals while also staying within budget. For example, our project team for Mountain View High School, which is nearing completion ahead of schedule in Loveland, won the confidence of Thompson School District officials.”
Renovation of Immanuel Lutheran Church, built in the mid-1950s, will begin in June 2008. Heath will bring all systems up to district standards and reconfigure space for classroom and office use. Harold Ferguson High School, currently operating out of a cramped 20,000-square-foot facility, is slated to open the 2008 school year in its new location.
Platte Valley High School officials hired Heath to build a high-end track modeled after the track at the University of Northern Colorado. Beginning in spring 2008, the Heath team will provide proper grading and sub-drainage for a new eight-lane track, finished with a fast, sealed polyurethane running surface. Heath also will construct areas for shot put and discus, two long-jump and pole-vault runways, a high-jump area and a drive-in storage facility for all track equipment.
Heath, headquartered in Fort Collins, has constructed or remodeled numerous schools and educational facilities in Colorado. Recent projects include $6.5 million in facility additions for Weld County School District 6; a $2 million new gymnasium and remodel for Cache La Poudre Elementary and Junior High Schools in Fort Collins; and the $20 million Regional Biocontainment Laboratory at Colorado State University – a joint venture with Hensel Phelps Construction Co. The $6.4 million addition to Mountain View High School in Loveland is scheduled for completion in the coming months.
The company also is partnering with GH Phipps, a prominent Denver-based general contractor, to construct the CSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital’s new Diagnostic Medical Center in Fort Collins.
