It is said where there is a will, there's a way. And, Moga's Gurpreet Singh Komal resolutely lives by this proverb in letter and spirit.
An art teacher by profession, Komal enjoys stretching his artistic abilities.
While practicing strokes with his paint brush at the Komal Art Gallery here, he also developed the inclination to set records.
"To prove my ability before my parents, I was always keen to perform something special so that they could feel proud of the accomplishment," says Komal, now a Limca Book record holder.
"Despite the fact that they were not keen on my taking up art as a vocation, I went ahead. They, perhaps, didn't see art as being a lucrative vocation to earn a permanent livelihood. They always dissuaded me from becoming a painter," he said.
Komal is registered with the Limca Book of World Records for passing a 10-metre long cloth through the eye of a single needle. It took him less than five minutes to perform this astonishing feat.
Today, he wants his feat to be recorded in the Guinness Book of World Records.
Gurpreet used a piece of cloth made of special quality and all painted with the national flags of various countries, carrying messages for world peace.
Gurpreet said, "It's an adage that a fine muslin cloth (Malmal) from Dhaka can easily pass through a wedding ring. But I was determined to change it. I always thought that if a piece of cloth can pass through a ring, why not through a needle's eye?"
Komal also holds the record for having passed 8,800 threads through the eye of a single needle in just 60 minutes.
He has defied the long held belief that embroidery comes naturally to women.
Incidentally, this is not the only manner in which Gurpreet wields a needle. One has to only see the hymns from the Guru Granth Sahib, the Sikh holy book, that he embroiders on pieces of cloth. (ANI)
