"It is due to the industrialised nations' indifference that today's situation has become so dangerous, that global warming has become so dangerous. So, it is first their responsibility to improve the situation," said K Srinavas, team leader of the Climate and Energy Campaign, Greenpeace.

Greenpeace today launched a new report titled "Up in smoke? Asia and the Pacific" a study from a unique coalition of major development and environment groups that warned India not to turn a blind eye on the impact of global warming.

A foreword to the report by R K Pachauri, Chairman of the Nobel prize-winning Inter-govermental Panel on Climate Change, says that 'Global Warming will push India into reverse', and highlights the devastating impacts of climate change in India.

Meanwhile, Prakash Rao, Senior Coordinator, Climate Change and Energy Programme, WWF-India said the use of renewable sources of energy was one of the answers to the problem.

"Very clearly we are at issues where energy scarcity is an issue in India. You can address that with efficiency and renewable energy. Secondly, with more access and decentralisation of renewable energy system is best suited for rural India. Third, reduction of carbon emission," Rao said. (ANI)
