Gordano Ltd. – an international developer of comprehensive enterprise-class messaging products delivering scalability and reliability – announces today a new release of the Gordano Messaging Suite (GMS). GMS is a multi-platform messaging system providing an easy-to-use, scalable alternative to Microsoft Exchange that runs on Windows, Linux, Solaris and AIX.
The new release of GMS re-invents GMS WebMail, a flexible webmail client that is fully featured and offers a familiar and intuitive interface similar to a high-end desktop client. Shared calendars, folders, tasks and notes are available, with excellent interoperability with Outlook, providing a range of access options to suit all tastes.
WebMail uses an AJAX driven interface which does not require any third party software. The use of AJAX provides a stable interface, providing high levels of performance and scalability. Highly intuitive to use, the interface is complimented by a range of usability features such as “Quick Add” in the calendar and support for dynamic resizing and moving of calendar events with drag and drop supported throughout. The software is designed to look and function as much like a desktop client as possible, while being entirely web browser – based.
“Ideal for enterprises of all sizes, as well as service providers and educational establishments, the new WebMail interface is a step change in browser based client support,” says John Stanners, Managing Director of Gordano. “The new features and functionality will enhance the end user experience, making it much more dynamic and versatile.”
Some of the key features of WebMail include:
Dynamic AJAX based interface
Fully customizable\brandable using CSS based themes
Highly extensible using Gizmos, a javascript mashup framework
Control Panel to allow quick context switching
Keyboard shortcuts available throughout
Drag-and-drop supported throughout
“The new WebMail interface is what I really like about the new release,” says Justin Graf of Empro Manufacturing Inc. “It is heads and tails above the previous version. The interface is easier to read, browser support is excellent, and it is many times faster – an all around must have.”
New features have also been added to other areas of GMS, including the ability for an administrator to temporarily switch context to take on the personality of another user in order to make changes on behalf of that user, without the need to know the user’s login credentials.
The Collaboration Server has also been enhanced to allow administrators to automatically distribute client updates from the server, giving a simple and easy upgrade process for desktop PCs and providing minimal disruption to the workforce.
