Golfers - 5 Tips To Straighten Out Your Hook
Publish Date : 10/16/2007 9:26:00 PM   Source : Sports News Onlypunjab.com

The hook is a shot which typically starts off a little to the right, then swerves to the left in the air. The hook is a common error that occurs in many beginners' game and has to be one of the most frustrating things that can happen to a golfer. Much like overcoming the slice, the hook can be corrected by changing basic fundamentals in your game.

Tip 1: The Stance

Place the ball in the center or a little forward in your stance. Most golfers who hook the ball place the ball too far back in their stance. Keep the ball in the middle or even with your left heel (if you're right-handed; right heel if your left-handed).

Be certain you place your feet in the direction of your target line. Both of the tips of your toes should be even, or a little to the left of the target line. This more open stance will help reduce the chances of hooking the golf ball. Don't place your left foot ahead in your stance. Keep your feet even.

Tip 2: Your Grip

Grip the club with your hands facing straight down. Make sure the "V" shape your hands create by grasping the golf club is pointing straight up to your nose. This will go a long way in eliminating a golf hook. Try not to grip the club too firmly. What occurs with an overly firm grip is that when you swing your right hand will turn over and come around, automatically causing you to hook the ball. Be more neutral in your grip and you should immediately start seeing better results.

Tip 3: The Weight of the matter.

Time after time a golfer will hook the ball due to the bulk of their weight being on their right foot, or back foot. You want to be certain that after your backswing your weight is more on your left foot. It creates a closed club face by forcing you to come around with the club. Be aware of where your weight is when you finish your golf swing and you can correct this problem immediately.

Tip 4: Club grips

Old and worn grips slip in your hand, causing poor shots and fatigue. Replace grips after every 60 games. They are the easiest solutions to correcting poor shots Make sure they are the right size for your hand and clubs and you will see an immediately improvement in your game.

Tip 5: Two step rhythm drill.

This drill will promotes the proper transfer of your body weight during your swing by exaggerating the correct movements. Forcibly step back and forth during your swing; you have no choice but to transfer your weight properly.

Hooking may be embarrassing, but it's not something to lose your composure over. Just take some time to practice these moves and tips. When you play again watch your scores get lower and lower.
