Globecomm Systems Inc. (NASDAQ: GCOM), a leading provider of satellite-based communications infrastructure solutions and services on a global basis, today announced that the Company’s wholly owned subsidiary, Globecomm Network Services Corporation (GNSC), has been awarded a multi-year contract from Showtime Networks Inc.
The contract supports the origination and broadcasting of the Smithsonian ChannelTM, a new high definition channel, as part of the SHOWTIME family of channels. Globecomm also upgraded SHOWTIME 2, one of the existing Showtime standard definition channels, to high definition as SHOWTIME continues to evolve their content platform.
Pursuant to the agreement, Globecomm provides origination, monitoring and uplink services for SHOWTIME. In addition, the Company designed and constructed a state-of-the-art network operations center and dedicated uplink facility at its world headquarters in Hauppauge, NY, which is utilized to broadcast SHOWTIME content to authorized sites throughout the United States.
