Overture Networks, a leading developer of converged packet access platforms for Carrier Ethernet services, today announced the hiring of Rob Spalding as EMEA account director. Overture Networks received new funding this summer to help capitalize on the worldwide growth in Carrier Ethernet deployments by increasing sales efforts and supporting global expansion. Rob will be based in the United Kingdom and will help Overture Networks support current customers and new customers throughout EMEA.
The market for Ethernet services in European MAN and WAN markets will grow at an average rate of 33 percent over the next five years to be close to EUR 8 billion by 2010, according to the Developing a Successful Carrier Ethernet Service Portfolio report, published by Analysys, global advisers on telecoms, IT and media.
“We are thrilled to have someone with Rob’s expertise as part of our global sales team,” said Scott St John, vice president of worldwide sales and service for Overture Networks. “We are committed to expanding our sales and marketing strategies as a rapid increase in demand for access edge hardware and software used to deliver Carrier Ethernet services over fiber, SONET/SDH and copper is taking place throughout global markets.”
Based in the UK, Spalding will head up Overture Network’s EMEA sales efforts. Spalding brings nearly 20 years of experience in sales and business development within the telecom industry to Overture Networks. Prior to joining Overture, he held several key positions with Alcatel-Lucent where he was responsible for managing Lucent’s EMEA Strategic Alliance team which developed go-to market strategies across wire line and wireless markets with system integrators such as IBM, Accenture and Capgemini.
Before joining the Alliance team he successfully managed several key Pan European service providers for Lucent Technologies’ optical networks group. Prior to Lucent Technologies, Spalding served with Cable and Wireless and Mercury Communications in the newly privatized telecommunications market in the UK and successfully managed customer sales teams selling into business and enterprise markets.
“It’s an exciting time to join Overture Networks,” said Spalding. “With worldwide market interest growing in Carrier Ethernet services, I hope to expand Overture’s global presence and build on its success with current EMEA customers.”
