GPS Golf Guru Drives Mobile Computing Down the Middle of the Fairway
Publish Date : 11/19/2007 6:25:00 AM Source : Mobile & Gadgets News OnlyPunjab.com
The inventors of GPS for golf have begun shipping the GPS Golf Guru, a handheld personal golf assistant designed to help golfers improve their score, have more fun on the course, and play faster. The only GPS golf handheld licensed under the pioneering 5,364,093 US patent (GPS Golf Patent Litigation), the Golf Guru is smaller, lighter, more rugged, and more functional than GPS range finders currently in the market (Compare Guru to the Competition). Guru seamlessly integrates GPS technology with scoring, handicapping and game tracking. Using the Golf Guru, players can determine the distance to the pin, traps, and hazards, track the distance they hit their clubs, and much more.
In previous ventures, the members of the Guru team patented the application of GPS technology to golf and created the first cart-based GPS golf systems (Founders' Story). Guru co-founder Chad Huston commented, "We first sketched out the Guru five years ago, but the technology at that time could not make the unit small enough and accurate enough at a price point we felt would meet golfer requirements. Other handhelds came to market early and proved us correct - even with limited functionality and questionable accuracy, they were too big to carry comfortably in your pocket. Our focus on the customers' needs has been rewarded - no other unit compares to the Golf Guru's functionality, size and accuracy, and it is very price competitive."
The Guru team surveyed hundreds of golfers and reviewed every handheld GPS device in the market to define the Guru's functionality, user interface, and ergonomics. John Laird, a PGA Golf Professional, reviewed the finished product: "The Guru is packed with features and can do more than any golf GPS device I've tested, yet I still find it the easiest and fastest to use. I like the scoring capability and web handicap solution. Serious golfers love the feature that captures multiple shot distances so they can record their game stroke by stroke. The Guru's Green Zense technology enables you to get the distance to the current pin placement, or any other target area on the green. The Guru then instantly provides the near and far points on the green between your location and your target." (Green Zense Feature)
Darryl Cornish, Guru co-founder commented, "We are continually developing new features and applications based on feedback from real golfers. Our platform heavily leverages open source tools and our development team is very experienced. As a result, you will see a rapid introduction of new capabilities in the Guru product line. We are already leading the competition in functionality, and that lead will only expand with time. Guru software upgrades are free to Guru Members, and they download transparently over the web, so keeping current with new features is almost automatic."
Assistant Pro, Inc, based in Austin, Texas, is a technology company created to help golfers improve their game using the founders' patented golf GPS technology. The founders include the developers of the first cart-based GPS golf systems and the investors and team have broad experience marketing technology to the golf and leisure industries.
