Language Line Services to Publish First-Ever Book on Telephone Interpreting by Acclaimed Author Nataly Kelly
Publish Date : 1/29/2008 8:10:00 AM   Source : Technology News Onlypunjab.com

Language Line Services announced today that it will publish the first full-length book on telephone interpreting written by interpreter and author Nataly Kelly. The book, entitled “Telephone Interpreting: A Comprehensive Guide to the Profession,” includes the first set of published best practice standards for the telephone interpreting industry, revolutionizing the field and enabling telephone interpreting providers to ensure high levels of quality to customers.

“As pioneers in the field of over-the-phone interpreting, we saw it as our place to provide a level of transparency about our industry that both our customers and the public deserve,” explains Louis Provenzano, Language Line Services’ President and Chief Operating Officer. “Ms. Kelly’s book adds to the growing body of literature available regarding language services, helping people understand the important role telephone interpreting plays in our society and economy.”

“Telephone Interpreting: A Comprehensive Guide to the Profession” is the brainchild of Kelly more than a decade in the making. It was inspired in part by the years Kelly spent working with Language Line Services as an interpreter, from 1996 through 2001. A former Fulbright scholar, Kelly is known internationally for her research and presentations on topics of sociolinguistics, interpreter certification, cultural competence and interpreting quality.

“My career in telephone interpreting began with Language Line Services, so to publish this book with them is to truly come full circle,” points out Kelly. “I am delighted that Language Line Services and its leadership understand the importance of sharing this knowledge with others, which ultimately serves to improve quality for the field at large.”

Initial reviews of the book have already generated a host of accolades. Izabel Arocha, president of the International Medical Interpreters Association and a professor at Boston University, calls the book a “must-read for all interpreters.” Holly Mikkelson, author and professor at the Monterey Institute of International Studies, describes it as “a much-needed and invaluable contribution,” adding that the book “should be required reading for anyone involved in interpreting over the phone, whether as a practitioner, consumer or educator.”

Language Line Services will publish “Telephone Interpreting: A Comprehensive Guide to the Profession” in early 2008 with a book tour of multiple cities in the United States and abroad.
