Donald turns down England bowling coach job
Publish Date : 9/28/2007 10:37:00 PM Source : Sports News Onlypunjab.com
Allan Donald has declined the offer to be England's full-time bowling coach due to familly reasons, England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) said today.
The South African was originally employed on a five-week contract till May this year, but was extended by the ECB till the ICC World Twenty20, which ended earlier this week in South Africa.
Donald said, ''I am grateful to the ECB for the chance to work with the England team and a backroom staff that is one of the best in world cricket.'' ''It has been an immensely enjoyable time but after 11 years on the road I feel that the commitment I would have to make to touring would be too great.'' ''I wish (England coach) Peter Moores, the England team and management every success in the future and I am grateful for the experience of the last five months,'' he said.
David Collier, the ECB chief executive, said, ''We are grateful to Allan for his contribution this summer and we fully understand the reasons for his decision not to take up the offer of a full-time contract which we offered before the Trent Bridge Test in July.'' Donald, also known ''White Lightning'', is remembered as the fearsome fast bowler, scowling and aggressive, with a horizontal white line of sunscreen across his cheeks and nose. In his prime he was one of the most successfull fast bowler that South Africa has ever produced.
