Toy breeds always seem to do well in competitions like Toy Poodles. What ever breed you get, you will need to start getting them used to constant grooming and people handling them. Show dogs are diligently groomed and pampered. Some dogs like it more than others. So if your dog is to be entered into competitions, they will either like it, or have to get used to it. So in other words they need to be a people dog and have a good temperament. One thing that you need to do regardless of the breed is to keep their teeth clean. If they are a long hair dog, then you will need to keep their hair clean and untangled on a constant basis.

When they are a puppy, one of the first things you will want to begin to train them on is how to properly walk when on a leash. You need to train your dog to walk at your side and not ahead of you. This is important. This lets your dog know that you are the leader. Your show dog in training will also need to be able to learn some common commands. These include sit, stay, and come. Dogs that wander off and disobey their owners commands don't do very well in competitions. With the proper training and discipline, it is very possible that you could have the top dog of the show.
