EQO Communications Deploys RadiSys Convedia Media Servers
Publish Date : 10/30/2007 10:41:00 AM Source : Hardware News Onlypunjab.com
RadiSys Corporation (NASDAQ:RSYS), a leading global provider of advanced embedded solutions, announced today that EQO Communications, a pioneer in mobile Internet phone services, has deployed RadiSys® Convedia® CMS-3000 media servers in its growing EQO mobile service network.
EQO provides consumers with a presence-enabled mobile service that brings the benefits of low-cost mobile VoIP, instant messaging, and social networking to mass-market mobile handsets and smartphones. EQO Mobile uses a combination of its customers’ current local minutes and data plan packages to offer economical mobile calling rates. It is free to download and can install automatically on millions of mobile handsets available worldwide from major manufacturers including Motorola, Nokia, Samsung, Sanyo, Research in Motion (Blackberry), and Sony Ericsson.
RadiSys Convedia CMS-3000 media servers have been designed to provide optimal performance and flexibility for cost-effective media-intensive IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) networks and VoIP services. Controlled by EQO mobile application servers, the Convedia CMS-3000 media servers deployed in EQO Communications’ data center locations provide VoIP media processing capabilities and call bridging functions for mobile subscribers.
EQO offers a comprehensive, yet easy-to-use, mobile communications service that essentially bills global calls and text messages as local calls. “The behind-the-scenes technology required to make this service work dictated unique and flexible IP media processing requirements," said Bill Tam, CEO of EQO Communications, "Convedia CMS-3000 media servers, with their broad IP media processing features, and easy-to-integrate control interfaces, provided EQO with the versatility and time-to-market essential for our business plan.”
RadiSys Convedia media servers reduce capital and ongoing operational costs for telecommunication service providers by consolidating the functions of traditional announcement and recording servers, interactive voice response units (IVR/VRU), audio/video conference bridges, voice mail servers, and speech platforms onto a single shared media processing platform. By accessing these media processing capabilities through open standards-based interfaces such as SIP, EQO Communications was able to seamlessly integrate Convedia media servers into its operations infrastructure, resulting in the rapid introduction and service launch for the innovative EQO Mobile service.
“RadiSys is pleased to be working with EQO Communications,” said Peter Briscoe, General Manager of the Media Server Business Unit of RadiSys. “Unique, differentiated service offerings like EQO Mobile weren’t even envisioned just a few years ago, yet our Convedia CMS-3000 media servers were able to integrate and deliver the necessary IP media processing. We look forward to working together with EQO to help it grow, succeed, and deliver additional service capabilities in the future.”
